There's a shot after this too, but I had some export issues and I might not have time to add it by 2 pm.
As I suspected, the difficult 2D shots will take a lot of this week. I have the motion worked out on paper because the 3D layering is too complex to reasonably rough things out on the computer.
I'm animating the 2D character first to get the line of action looking good, then breaking it up into three separate layers to interact with the 3D character. After that, I'm going to add the 3D character, closely following the established line of action. The good news is that the camera is fixed, so I don't have to worry about gaps showing in the layers.
Because the first shots will be the first impression of the film, I want to make sure it sells the animation style so that viewers won't spend the rest of the film criticizing. I feel like I've been looking at the above shot for too long, so I might go back to it at the end if I have time, but it's enough for now.
